(Yep, we saw Beale street--the song is even more fun now...)
Today was a travel day with benefits. We got up and drove to Memphis, where we were welcomed by the Memphis Pyramid. It started life as an arena, playing on the city's namesake in Egypt, but is now a retail space.
We didn't make it to Graceland, but we did get a bit of a feel for the Memphis music scene...
We each ate separate lunches: D ate at a place that was once frequented by Elvis.
D ate The Elvis (grilled peanut-butter-and-banana-sandwich) and a salad (to avoid ending up like The King) :)

L traveled down the road for BBQ at an award-winning place that does ribs multiple ways (wet, dry, pulled, slab, hot, mild, tangy, sweet...). L ate ribs Memphis style and had a choice of four sauces (mild was the best and some even came home with us!)
...and we were amazed at the change to farmland as we crossed the state line.
When we arrived in Little Rock, we checked into the hotel and went for a lovely walk along the riverfront to the Clinton Library and park. On the way we popped past the Old State House (now a museum) and rushed around in the last 10 minutes before closing time.
As we walked back to the hotel, we stopped at a restaurant called Flying Saucer for a drink and small snack. The restaurant is known for the hundreds of tea-cup saucers that covered every inch of the walls and ceiling. It also had hundreds of beers. We stayed until it became dark, taking in the excitement of the locals.
Our hotel is downtown and pretty close to the Capitol buildings. This made for some great views in the day...
...and at night.

The Old State House Museum was the site of Clinton's 1992 acceptance speech after being elected 42nd president of the USA.
On the way we enjoyed the Riverfront Park, which has some amazing art work.
We arrived at the Clinton Library and park at closing time but still had time to walk the grounds and scope out our visit tomorrow. The grounds are enormous and include a park and bridge. For the little time we were there, several groups of locals used the property for exercise and outdoor entertainment. As we walked back to the hotel, we stopped at a restaurant called Flying Saucer for a drink and small snack.
