Today our DC hosts served a South African sausage called boerewors and a Rugby game. South Africa and Wales were competing in a Rugby World Cup quarter-final in Twickenham, England.
After South Africa won, we celebrated M's birthday with monkey cake!
We had a wonderful time with our South African friends in DC--it felt like home away from home. With much reluctance we packed up and headed towards Nashville, the next stop on our road trip.
We crossed the Potomac and into a new state--Virginia!
We left Washington DC and traveled through the beautiful colors of Virginia fall, arriving in Wytheville, Virginia shortly after dark. We got out of the car, surprised at how cold it was because we are now in the South. It shouldn't be this cold!
We did learn some interesting facts about Virginia while in the state. It's the birthplace of George Washington, General Robert E. Lee, and Sandra Bullock. Virgiia is also the home of the Pentagon, the CIA, and more technology workers than any other state. And the most interesting fact? The state beverage is MILK!
