We left our good friends in Michigan and drove on the Ohio Turnpike to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
It was seven floors of rock and roll history and the music that made artists famous. We even saw information on ABBA--D's favorite band inducted into the Hall of Fame.
D's biggest shock of the day was when L asked the parking attendant how she was and she answered "I was blessed by the best." Blatant religious references are still kind of unusual for D.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was WELL worth the detour, from Pink Floyd's The Wall exhibit to a city-by-city explanation of the history and influence of different parts of the planet on rock and roll's evolution. Cities covered include Cleveland, Detroit, Memphis, Liverpool, London, Los Angeles, Seattle, and a whole bunch of others I have probably forgotten.
L spent time in the American Bandstand exhibit. Then we talked about her memories of watching it as a child and how if a musical artist was on AB, they had 'made it'. We saw Ringo's drum kit and a custom-made Elvis motorcycle. Definitely worth a long visit--lots of fun!
From Ohio we headed into Pennsylvania briefly and then wound our way up to New York state. Four states in one day--an outstanding amount of ground covered and all driven by L.
By the time we made it through Buffalo and up to the border of Canada to check into our Niagara-side motel, we were tired and hungry. Dinner was a delicious casino buffet followed by a meandering walk back to our room. And yes, we can see Canada from here. ;-)
