Walking the banks of Lake Superior

Today was a light driving day, thank goodness. We only had a 2.5-hour drive from Minneapolis up to Duluth, Minnesota. It was a nice change after the last two days of too much driving. Road trips are fun if you stay out of the car more than in! We saw some fun signs along the way...
...and some great hay bales...
...and then the sign we were looking for...
The drive up to Duluth was beautiful. We are staying with a friend of D's from her Japan days. We haven't seen her since the 2006 wedding in South Africa, so it was quite a reunion with a lot of catching up to do. We took a lovely walk along the banks of Lake Superior, which despite being a lake, has waves and tides and stuff. Unbelievable!
It was a beautiful senset along the lake.
And we took the puppy with us, who gets her own steps for getting in and out of the car.
Dinner was extremely delicious Indian food followed by more chattering at home and then a relatively early night. Almost three weeks on the road is starting to take its toll so we are looking forward to the comfort of a good friend's home for a few days. And exploring a bit more of the Gopher State.
