Lunch in the underwear capital, dinner in the country music capital...

After a quick breakfast in Whytheville, Virginia and a quick appreciation for the changing leaves, we jumped in the car and headed west, to Tennessee.
It didn't take too long to get to the Tennessee border...
...and to see all these great places to go! Sevierville is the birthplace of Dolly Parton. Dollyville is in Gatlinburg.

We decided to stop in Knoxville for lunch.
Interesting fact about Knoxville: it used to be the underwear capital of the country because of all the textile mills in the area.
D chose crab cake bennie for lunch (breakfast for lunch!)
L had the far more southern white-shrimp-and-cheese-grits (with bacon, peppers, and andouille sausage).
L then had a lemon Italian ice (needed tequila and salt on the rim).
On the way out of Knoxville we passed the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
Left to Chattanooga, but we went right...
You know you're in the south when you pass the Hungry Mother State Park, and signs like this one:
Dinner was in downtown Nashville--on Broadway.
Honky Tonk is a big thing in Nashville. This place had three floors and there was a different live band on every floor.
Nashville: music city!
Yes, we had barbecue...when in the south...
Followed up by candy--really GOOD candy!
Making gophers...
...gophers on the left, pralines on the right (we had pralines!)
The choo-choo train circling above hungry patrons' heads in the candy store.

Some interesting points about Tennessee, the Volunteer State:
- it's the birthplace of Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton, and Davy Crocket
- it's the home of Graceland, the Grand Ol' Opry, and the Jack Daniels Distillery (the latter is, ironically, in a 'dry county' where it is illegal to sell liquor, but they still pass out small samples)
- it is illegal to shoot wild game from a moving vehicle. Except for whales.

We heard a lot of great songs on the radio during our trip to Nashville. The best one for today, we think: Baby, you ain't worth the whiskey! (Cole Swindell)

Also on the radio, we heard the weirdest things:
"Have you ever been driving along and suddenly started craving delicious bacon?"
"Come on down: we have special deals on guns and ammo?"
